Had this phone for a few months now, performance is fast and responsive no lag in any of the applications like those indicated by previous reviewer. I've owned phones made by nokia, samsung and motorola and this easily holds its own with them in terms of build quality and performance. It replaced my Nokia N95 handset and is a 300% improvement in terms of functionality. The touch screen makes web browsing a pleasure rather than a chore and if your carrier supports 3g web pages load pretty darn fast. My only complaint is that the cameras on both HTC phones i've owned have been very low spec. Fortunately i have a dedicated digital camera for photographs as even the 'so called' 5 megapixel phone cameras such as my N95 are good for nothing except token fun shots, the poor lens and over the top compression leaves alot to be desired. So contrary to the previous review if you want a pocket pc phone that has a smaller form factor than alot of the other PPC phones i think this is a good model. I installed an 8Gb micro SD card in mine and it happily plays full length movies in full screen with no graphics problems, in fact they look great and i also installed a sat nav program (co-pilot live) which it runs perfectly (bluetooth connection to external GPS receiver). if you are running windows vista you dont even need to install active sync as the phone shows up as an external storage device simply by plugging it in via usb. HTC have also added a nice finger friendy interface called touch flo, this allows you to use a few simple swipes of your finger to open and select your common applications and contacts, a great addition to the windows mobile 6 operating system, in fact i have found that i hardly ever need to take out the stylus at all. Definitely one of my best buys this year.

I realise this is a bit late to be writing a review, as these phones are now old hat, such is the march of technology.



I've had this phone for 18 months, in its Vodafone version, and have been both impressed and dismayed in equal measure.



The phone has great features, can take a 4GB expansion card and the windows mobile OS opens up a world of third party apps. I've regularly used a several mapping/sat nav programs (by coupling the phone with a bluetooth GPS receiver) and found that it performed well.



However, the phone has two major drawbacks that prevent me from being able to recommend it:-



Firstly, it is slow. Very slow. Ok, that's a complaint you could level at the OS itself (and many have) but the phone has insufficient RAM and processing power to handle what it sets out to do. This results in severe lag at times and even leads the phone to freeze up altogether on occasion. This can be mitigated somewhat by regularly closing down unused features with the task manager.



Secondly, and more crucially, the build quality is appalling. If you, like me, browse the mobile net a lot (ebay etc) or like to have a live internet connection to hand while at home without balancing a laptop on the arm of a chair, this would seem a good choice of phone. It can access the full internet and can connect via your home wi-fi network. BUT- the buttons, particularly the main navigation thumb switch, are made of the cheapest, flimsiest plastic, and any serious surfer will find that they break (ie literally disintegrate) after a while. Unforgivable.



On paper, HTC phones look great but, unless they totally rethink the build and materials, I'd never buy another one.

I've had an HTC s710 (sold as a Vodafone v1415) for about a month and a half now. After seeing some of the bad ratings the phone got, I felt the need to write my views - which in short are that I think the phone is great.



The features I use the most on the phone are its calendar/diary function and Wi-Fi internet. The diary function works in a very similar way to the one on Outlook, and is easy to use. It allows the normal system of viewing by month, week or day, with the ability to set reminders and notes to each appointment. It also has the facilities for replying to meeting requests or creating them in other peoples' Outlook calendars, in the same way as the PC version can.



The phone does not support 3G, which is a bit unfortunate meaning the internet can be a bit slow - unless you're in a Wi-Fi zone. It connects without any hassle to Wi-Fi networks (b or g) including ones with password protection such as WEP or PSK. I regularly use its Wi-Fi to check emails when at home (saves me having to turn my computer on) or at friends' houses. It supports imap and pop3 email accounts directly, making it easier and quicker than having to use the internet browser to go to the web-access site.



Both email and the calendar synchronise easily with Outlook on your computer. This makes it easy to avoid having the problem of two incomplete diaries, such as by having a paper diary that you carry with you and another on the computer.



The MP3 player it comes bundled with is Windows Media player, and the amplifiers in the phone seem to work well giving good quality stero sound. The external speaker is loud without losing too much in quality.



There's one odd feature with the phone in that the way to close programs is not obvious at first. Returning to the home screen does not close them; you have to go through the Task Manager to do that. While this means you can have multiple programs running at once, it also means that you can inadvertently clog up the memory. Closing programs with the Task Manager is not difficult to do since the phone can display a list of the 10 last accessed programs on the home screen and once you get into the habit of it, the Task Manager features regularly there.



I have not had any problems with the phone crashing or temporarily freezing, though I do agree with other reviews that it can be a bit sluggish when switching from portrait to landscape display when you pull out the keyboard.



Lastly, the phone is not expensive. I was able to get the phone for free with a contract paying less than £20 a month.



In short, it's a fantastic phone. It's great for integrating your diary into your phone (so you don't have the hassle of carrying two things with you), making it easy to check emails when not at your computer, oh and making phone calls too.

This phone came on the market with a fanfare. All of the early reviews said that it was wonderful. I went out and bought one. Very early on, there were keyboard issues - basically it didn't work. HTC customer service are terrible. If you are lucky enough to get through, you will not find them very helpful. Eventually, I sent my phone back, and was told that the damage was not covered under warrantee. This phone could not stand up to normal use, and its warrantee was no better.

Never again HTC

I owned such a smartphone and I really enjoyed it. It has everything I need: a large comfortable keyboard, a nice music player, external memory card (SDHC cards didn't work for me), GPS and wi-fi support. HTC look really concerned about phone users: a lot of little usability features really improve user experience and let me do my everyday tasks much faster. I also miss chat-like sms messages representation on screen a lot.

Take care of your phone - it may have strange behavior if you drop it a couple of times (as I did)!

Despite all the disadvantages I would buy the same phone once again.

The plastic covers simply fit on top of your screen. The problem with them is because they sit on the surface (which is flat rather than grooved) the plastic starts to lift at the corners, and becomes unsticky. I've used 3 out of my 6 since Wednesday

Bought this phone and had it for about 2 days so far, and absolutely LOVE it.

Some people have called it a cheap blackberry, and to be honest it is in a way, except with windows and it works on pay-as-you-go.

The windows mobile software is brilliant, and i like JOGGR (although its a marmite thing)



Except, there's a few cons:

Firstly, a few things concerning the specs - ive gone to this phone from a sony ericsson k800i, and MY GOD is there a difference between the 3.2MP Cybershot camera and the 1.3MP normal camera on this. It really is a woeful camera. Also, no 3G or radio. Although, considering I bought the £49.99 refurbished BT model from Telephones Online (which I really recommend; I cant tell it isnt brand new!) I can't expect features like a good camera and 3G for a £50 phone.

Secondly, the battery life's quite bad. Every day it needs another charge. This said, haven't tried the extended battery yet but it makes the back twice as thick and heavy (if you buy this you'll realise how big the case is to fit in your pocket with the normal battery, yet alone the heavy duty one!)

Finally, it does some strange things. For instance, when the keys are locked, if you press unlock and then the message key, it brings up messages even though it is locked, although you can't go any further without unlocking the keys. But what do you expect from Windows? *winkwink*



Seriously though, gripes aside, an AMAZING phone, and would recommend it to anyone, as long as you don't mind living with a short battery life, no radio, and no 3G (though wifi makes up for this!!!)

I have had this since my trip to the US over 2 years ago!!

I have the 'T-mobile Dash' incarnation but still use it even now.



This is possibly the best phone I have ever used/had. I have a

nokia n95 8gb but I miss using the Dash because of it's slim size,

the crazy texting speeds (thank you full size keyboard!) and the

incredible battery life!



The nokia has to be charged every day, the HTC was charged every 2/3

days!! I'm not too bothered about the n95 camera as it takes so long

to start up and fiddle with (settings) I just bought a seperate camera!



THE ONLY REASON NOT TO GET THIS PHONE

Is if you cannot live without picture messaging, maybe it's just me but

I have never been able to set up picture messaging with O2 on this, thats

the only reason I don't use it as much anymore!

I got mine as part of an employee discount offer. I received the "phone" on friday and could not wait to play with my newest new toy. I was initially very surpised by the compact yet complex approach to the design.( I expected it to be bigger!) I am used to computers and mobile phones having used many over the past 15 years. The main problem initially was the size of the keyboard which I found very difficult to use accurately,also having to hold down the keys that double as the numeric keypad is extremely hit and miss (not good with password input). Another thing about this phone is the battery life is woeful it has to be charged overnight every night even with the larger battery this is unacceptable in a phone costing this much. The only good thing intially was one of the inbuilt games which my wife really loves (saddo) This is academic really as the phones screen stopped working whilst on one of its many overnight charges. I am now waiting for another one and will post an update if the situation changes.

To sum it up the jury is out at the moment.

I've used HTC phones in one form or another for about 3 years. I've tolerated the windows mobile software as it gave me access to MSN, BUT I've just been told that I now only have 30 days to use it, before i'm charged (OVER & ABOVE any data charged) for the "privelege" of accessing MSN on my phone. I was about to buy an HTC TyTn11 but am now going to buy a Nokia n95 - no more windows mobile phones for me anymore...
